I know it’s been a while🤦🏽♀️, but I’m back and I’m checking in! I hope that you’re well amid this pandemic?
Above are a few pics of my pre/post retwist done last week (at 43 weeks)!! I got my first style‼️ and yesterday I celebrated 44 weeks loc’d.🤯. Can you believe that I’m one month from celebrating my one year Locversary?!🥳. I can’t!
Although I started my loc journey during the pandemic, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made! As I mentioned in an earlier post, my decision to loc my hair wasn’t spiritual, but simply seemed to be the next step in my natural hair progression. I’d been a loose natural for five years and enjoyed getting to know the texture of my hair, etc. because I got my first relaxer at the tender age of five and I never really knew what it looked or felt like pre-relaxer, until my big chop in 2015! I was in love with my curls, but I hated the shrinkage! It seemed counter productive to spend hours washing, detangling, and moisturizing my hair, only for it to shrink into what looked like a TWA.
After getting a two-strand twist style (pic below), I knew that my next step in my natural hair journey would be locs (see my post entitled “So, why did you decide to loc your hair?” I’m glad you asked...”) for more deets)...
Now that I’m almost a year into my loc journey, I’m still wishing I’d done it sooner! It’s been a renaissance of sorts for me. I’m more patient, long suffering, and I accept myself even when I don’t look/feel pulled together. I’ve learned to embrace each phase of the loc process without attaching or associating my hair with who I am; because frizz can work on a sista’s psyche (if you let it).
Thank you for reading/being here with me during my loc journey (even though I didn’t post pics/write monthly as I planned to). I can see the first finish line in this marathon and I promise to do better keeping you involved so you too can see the progress!
Stay tuned to see the entire year’s process!
